Hello lovely subscribers
First of all I’d like to say thank you for your support by subscribing to Comfortably Hungry. I absolutely love what I do (and I hope you do too!) and I’m keen to reach as many people as possible. So to that end, it’s time for a bit of trumpet blowing. I have decided to put Comfortably Hungry up for the Food Podcast/Broadcast Award in
awards next year. The judging is done by a secret panel (i.e. I’m not canvasing you for a vote) BUT I have to nominate one episode ‘published’ in 2024 for the judges to listen to. This is where I would appreciate your help.Please could you let me know which of the following was your favourite episode.
1. Stir up Sunday with @dr_neil_buttery
2. Bleed Cows & Black Puddings with @dr_neil_buttery & @flavour.ie
3. R.I.P. (Retail In Peril?) with @dranniegray
4. Come Die With Me with @jayreifel & Giles MacDonogh
5. Burnt Cakes and the (not so) Dark Ages with @emmakayhistorian
6. Dark Food with @dr_alessandra_pino
7. A Chocolate Horror Story with @fearfeasts
8. What Ever Happened to Fry’s? With Alex Hutchison @penthorpebooks
9. Meet the Tosiers with Helen White from the @oldroyalnavalcollege & Dr Sara Pennell
I have started a chat on Substack where you can let me know your thoughts or you can reply to this post.
Thank you!
Ideally before Christmas. Any feedback welcome though
Hi Sam, the ones that stand out for me are all the chocolate pods as they slowly immersed me in its rich history, my favourite though was -
Whatever happened to Fry’s - fascinating facts about the history of British chocolate manufacture, Quaker business and nostalgic too, also as a ‘foodie’ archivist I loved the chocolate archivist insight;
Bleeding cows and black pudding - a great window on how our attitude to food has changed as we become more separate from its production, and fabulous facts on black pudding, all made better with two perspectives.
Good luck whatever you choose!
